We are proud
In our starting point
It was 1980 when hairstylist Paul Mitchell and businessman John Paul DeJoria teamed up to start a beauty company unlike anything our industry had ever known. With their shared vision, a trailblazing spirit and $700 between them, they founded Paul Mitchell®
Good Fortune
Our co-founder John Paul DeJoria’s inspirational rags-to-riches success story exemplifies the American Dream. From living on the streets of Los Angeles and selling encyclopedias door to door to becoming the co-founder of our global beauty brand, he has defied the odds to achieve success and share his success with others. In 2016, he took to the big screen to share his story.
Professional First
Our commitment always has been, and will be, to support the success of salon professionals. In 2007, our co-founder, John Paul DeJoria, signed a 360-year trust that ensures we’ll remain a family operated, independent pro beauty company that stays true to our original promises.
From robust hair color offerings and unmatched wet line products to ever-expanding education and business resources, pros can count on us for everything needed to thrive.
Regenerative Roots
We honor our roots, our founders’ values and our sustainability leadership across generations. Our passion for hair and compassion for people and the planet is our priority and we aim to take positive and impactful actions that leave the ecosystems and communities where we operate in a better place than how we found them. We are committed to climate neutrality across our operations by 2050.

Groundbreaking Beauty
For us, innovation goes far beyond developing forward-thinking products. It's about setting new standards for our industry—and beyond.
Sights Set on Solar
Just three years after launching Paul Mitchell, our co-founders looked to the future and competed in the first-ever World Solar Challenge. Teaming up with physicist Jonathan Tennyson, they designed a 19-foot-long racecar covered with 150 solar panels and named it the Mana Lā, which means "Power of the Sun" in Hawaiian. With its aerodynamic design and ahead-of-its-time features, it reached a top speed of 85 miles per hour and was a strong contender in the race. Today, you can find the Mana Lā at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California.
Great Hair Starts Here
We're proud to operate our unmatched Product Innovation Center (PIC) in Santa Clarita, California. This in-house lab and 12-chair salon is where our expert chemists and experienced product evaluators formulate, test and perfect each of our products before they reach your hands. In 2022, the PIC welcomed several thousand guests and completed over 600 tests to deliver the latest (and truly greatest) hair care, styling and professional hair color products available.

Beauty Inside and Out
Planting trees where they’re needed most. Opting for sustainable and ethical business practices. Championing diversity and inclusion. We’re committed to making the world a more beautiful place whenever we can, wherever we can—yesterday, today and always.
In Good Company
Over the years, we’ve developed relationships with dozens of change-making organizations that support stronger communities, opportunities for kids, a healthier planet, human rights and so much more. These are some of the charities that are close to our heart.
More Good Things
Our nationwide network of Paul Mitchell cosmetology schools is a force for positive change. Every year, their Future Professionals and staff host grassroots events to raise money and awareness for charitable organizations. To date, they’ve raised over $22 million (and counting)!
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
We're committed to cultivating a culture of inclusivity and belonging. We stand against racism, violence and hate. True cultural change is achieved through amplifying minoritized voices and increasing visibility of marginalized groups in our workplace and communities.
